City Council approves $254,765,841 for 2023 budget

Brighton City Council adopted the 2023 budget at the December 6 City Council meeting. The vote approved $254,765,841 across all 15 of the city’s operating, capital and utility funds.

Highlights of the budget include:

  • Continued construction of the City’s new water treatment plant

  • Beginning construction of the new Municipal Service Center

  • Widening of Bridge Street

  • Design of Sable Blvd. improvements to support the future E-470 interchange

  • Construction of Cherry Meadows Park, and

  • Feasibility and design for a public safety facility expansion

The 2023 budget runs from January to December 2023, and addresses challenges associated with the city’s continued growth including potable water production, water conservation, traffic safety, public safety and expanded service delivery. The 2023 budget is the largest budget in the history of the city and reflects several key one-time capital improvements entering construction. Spending is gradually expected to return to usual levels over the next few years. The 2023 budget also considers market expectations with a conservative economic outlook for 2023.

City leaders were able to balance the 2023 budget, while maintaining the required reserves across all funds.
