CITY OF BOULDER: July is Parks and Recreation Month

Announcement

City of Boulder issued the following announcement on July 1.

Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), invites everyone to learn more about the profession and its impacts on the local level.

In addition to managing facilities and providing programming, parks and recreation professionals also work to create a lasting and positive impact on a community’s health and wellness, social equity and conservation issues.

Boulder’s parks and recreation system reflects the community’s long held values and support for parkland, green space, fitness and wellness.  For over 100 years, the city’s Parks and Recreation (BPR) department has promoted the community’s access to nature, health and wellness.

“Our mission to is to promote the health and well-being of the entire Boulder community,” stated Boulder Parks and Recreation Director Ali Rhodes. “Park and Recreation month provides an opportunity to honor the passion our team shows every single day all year-round. Now more than ever, the benefits parks and recreation provide to a community are invaluable as our green spaces and services nurture the hearts and minds of our community members.”

The theme for 2020 is “We Are Parks and Recreation,” which highlights the diversity of parks and recreation professionals and showcases their selfless work. The impacts of COVID-19 have changed and challenged the face of parks and recreation, from adjusting how programs and services are delivered to managing increased use of outdoor recreation and public spaces. This month, while you take time in a park or at the pool, also take time to celebrate the professionals who navigate these unprecedented circumstances to provide services to the Boulder community.

NRPA encourages people that support parks and recreation to share their park and recreation story, as well as why their local park and recreation professionals are important to them, with the hashtag #WeAreParksAndRec. Film a video thanking a park and recreation professional in your community for the services they provide and post it on social media using the hashtag #ThankAParkAndRecPro for a chance to win prizes throughout July.
