U.S. Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) has voted against Trump’s impeachment, citing limited debate time and lack of proper deliberations.
Buck posted his statement on Twitter:
“I will not be voting to again impeach President Trump. Speaker Pelosi gave members just two hours to debate to discuss these rushed articles of impeachment. There were no testimonies under oath, no witnesses, sober deliberation or regular processes of House Judiciary Committee hearings,” his statement read.
Buck also said the rushed impeachment process undermined the constitutional process.
Buck condemned the events of Jan. 6, saying leaders should be accountable for creating a tense political climate and they are responsible for changing that.
“Republican and Democratic members of Congress alike must lead on this issue by toning down the divisive rhetoric and encouraging unity. This botched impeachment only fans the flames of an already out of control fire,” he continued in his statement.
Like many other lawmakers and representatives, Buck called for legal action to be taken on the culprits behind the insurrection.
Questions have arisen whether or not Trump would be allowed to run again in 2024 if he was removed from office.
WUSA reports that if Trump was removed by the 25th Amendment, he could run again because that does not disqualify him from running again.
However, if he is removed via an impeachment conviction, the answer gets a little more murky. Congress has the authority to disqualify someone from running for future office.
In the past, there have been times that Congress has decided not to disqualify someone from future office, so Trump’s ability to run in 2024 depends on if Congress decides to disqualify him or not.
