Colorado track and field athlete Kole Mathison earned a bronze medal in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 16. Mathison finished with a time of 8:38.78 after leading part of the race.
Mathison’s performance secures him a spot at the NCAA West Regional in a few weeks, where he will attempt to qualify for his second consecutive NCAA Championship appearance in the steeplechase.
Avery Pearson also advanced to Saturday’s women’s 800-meter final after placing second in the preliminaries with a time of 2:01.79. Pearson is scheduled to compete for the conference title on Saturday evening.
The Colorado team will continue competition on Saturday, starting with Lucas Williams participating in the men’s discus event. Pearson will begin running events for Colorado with her appearance in the women’s 800-meter final.
