The University of Colorado Athletics Department announced on May 11 that it will hold a public sendoff for the CU women’s lacrosse team as they depart to compete against Northwestern in the NCAA Elite Eight.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 at 2:30 p.m. outside the northeast entrance to the CU Events Center. According to the announcement, Director of Athletics Fernando Lovo and Head Coach Ann Elliott Whidden will speak at the gathering before the team boards their bus bound for Northwestern. The university mascot Chip and members of the CU Cheer Squad are also expected to attend.
Colorado is set to face off against Northwestern on Thursday, May 14 at 12:30 p.m. Mountain Time. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU, allowing fans who cannot travel with the team an opportunity to watch.
“Let’s send Coach Whidden and the Buffs off to Chicago in style!” organizers said in their statement.
The sendoff provides supporters with an opportunity to show encouragement as Colorado prepares for one of its most significant games of the season.
