The Colorado women’s basketball team is set to host BYU at the CU Events Center in Boulder on February 14 at 1 p.m. MT. Both teams enter the game with identical records of 17-8, but Colorado holds a slight edge in conference play with an 8-5 record compared to BYU’s 6-7.
This meeting marks the 17th matchup between the two programs, with Colorado leading the series 9-7. The Buffaloes have won their last seven games against BYU and are looking to match last season’s regular season conference win total with another victory. The teams will meet again later this month in Provo.
Colorado will honor Shelley Sheetz during Saturday’s game by adding her to the program’s Wall of Honor. Sheetz was Colorado women’s basketball’s first All-American and is currently an assistant coach for the team. As a player from 1991 to 1995, she led the Buffaloes to significant achievements, including a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and three Big Eight championships.
In their most recent outing, Colorado defeated Houston on February 11 by a score of 73-63. Senior forward Jade Masogayo led all scorers with 20 points, marking her third consecutive game as Colorado’s top scorer. Junior guard Desiree Wooten contributed off the bench with 14 points, while senior forward Anaëlle Dutat recorded her fifth double-double of the season.
Head coach JR Payne is in her tenth year leading Colorado and has guided the team to three NCAA tournament appearances during her tenure. This season marks Colorado’s second year back in Big 12 competition after being picked ninth in preseason polls.
The current roster includes four returning players from last season: Jade Masogayo, Kennedy Sanders, JoJo Nworie, and Tabitha Betson. Ten newcomers joined for this campaign—five transfers and five freshmen—bolstering depth across positions.
Jade Masogayo has recently been recognized among conference leaders for scoring (12.4 points per game), free throw percentage (78.7%), and blocks per game (0.8). She was named to this week’s Big 12 Starting Five after scoring a career-high 23 points against TCU earlier this month.
Other standouts include junior guard Zyanna Walker, who ranks fourth in steals per game within the conference; senior forward Anaëlle Dutat, who leads all Big 12 players in offensive rebounds; and junior guard Desiree Wooten, who is among conference leaders for both scoring average and free throw accuracy.
As a team, Colorado ranks among league leaders in rebounding margin (sixth), steals per game (fourth), offensive rebounds per game (fourth), scoring defense (sixth), turnover margin (sixth), and free throw percentage (seventh).

Coach Payne reflected on recent performances: “We’re proud of how our team played tough defense early against Houston,” she said after Wednesday’s win.
