Colorado qualifies 10 athletes for NCAA West First Rounds

Colorado qualified 10 athletes across six events for the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field West First Rounds, according to a May 20 announcement. The competition is scheduled from Wednesday, May 27 through Saturday, May 30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The NCAA West First Rounds act as the preliminary qualifying meet for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The top twelve finishers in each event will advance to nationals.

Events will be held at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas. The men’s competition is set for Wednesday and Friday, while women’s events are scheduled for Thursday and Saturday.

The list of Colorado qualifiers includes Avery Pearson (800 meters), Abbey Nechanicky (10,000 meters), Ashley Jones (10,000 meters), and Hannah Prosser (10,000 meters) on the women’s side. For men, Kole Mathison will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase; Tanner Newkirk in the 5,000 meters; James Overberg and Dean Casey in the 10,000 meters; Danny Tragarz in the 400-meter hurdles; and Gustavo Alfonso in javelin.
