The Colorado Buffaloes women’s tennis team is preparing for another weekend of competition after starting their spring season with two home victories. The Buffs began their campaign on January 23 by defeating Montana State 7-0, followed by a 4-0 win against the Air Force Academy on January 25.
“It’s always nice to play at home,” head coach Anthony Pham said. “I think we’ve had a good month so far with practice, training, and getting the two matches in last week. We always have good crowds at home so it’s nice to play here, but whether it’s home or on the road, the focus for us is to keep getting better. We know the month of February is going to be a challenging one, from a travel standpoint. But I think our team is ready.”
The Buffaloes will conclude their current home stand by hosting Miami (Ohio) on Friday before traveling Sunday for their first away match against the Denver Pioneers.
Miami (Ohio) enters Friday’s contest with an 0-4 record this season. In contrast, Denver started its spring season with a win over Seattle, finishing 6-1 last Friday.
Historically, Colorado holds a 32-13 advantage over Denver and once held a 15-match winning streak between 1985 and 2003. Since then, results between the teams have alternated, though Colorado has won the last two meetings since 2022.
“DU is always a very good program,” Pham said. “It’s always a close match. It’ll be a good test for us, but we must clean up to start on Friday against Miami, and then we can head into Sunday. For both, it’s just good opportunities for us to keep getting better.”
Denver has led the Summit League conference for eleven consecutive years since joining in 2013 and has participated in every NCAA Championship tournament during that time period, reaching the second round twice.
Matches are scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. Mountain Time at the Meadows Club and Sunday at 4 p.m. at Denver Tennis Park. Updates will be available via Instagram and X accounts @cubuffstennis.
